Snap Inc. is accelerating its efforts to release new AI-powered smart glasses through a multi-year strategic agreement with Qualcomm. The partnership aims to enhance the hardware’s capabilities by integrating on-device artificial intelligence, high-performance graphics, and sophisticated multiuser digital experiences.

A Strategic Alliance for Advanced Hardware

The collaboration between the two companies is designed to create a solid technical framework for future wearable devices. According to a press release, the agreement focuses on delivering “on-device AI, cutting-edge graphics, and advanced multiuser digital experiences” to the next generation of Snap’s hardware.

Evan Spiegel, CEO of Snap, expressed optimism about the technological leap this partnership represents. “Our work with Qualcomm provides a strong foundation for the future of Specs, bringing developers and consumers advanced technology and performance that pushes the boundaries of what’s possible,” Spiegel stated.

The Evolution of Snap’s Spectacles

The development of Snap’s “Specs” has been a long-term project, beginning more than ten years ago. While the company actively marketed the product to the public in the past, the last version available to general consumers was released in 2019.

Since 2024, Snap has transitioned the glasses into a developer-only product. This strategic shift was intended to give the company time to cultivate a diverse range of software and applications. By seeding these programs early, Snap hopes to build a robust ecosystem that will appeal to a broader audience upon the product’s eventual commercial launch.
