Garmin unveils a $2,000 satellite smartwatch to compete with the Apple Watch Ultra 3
Garmin unveiled its latest flagship smartwatch, the Garmin Fenix 8 Pro, featuring innovative technology such as a microLED display. This release strategically coincides with Apple’s upcoming launch event, targeting dedicated outdoor athletes with a premium pricing structure.
Advanced Display Technology
The Garmin Fenix 8 Pro is available in two models, with the option of an AMOLED display in 47mm and 51mm sizes, priced at $1,199.99 and $1,299.99 respectively. The model equipped with a microLED display, exclusively in 51mm size, commands a higher price tag of $1,999.99. The microLED display boasts over 400,000 LEDs, delivering a peak brightness of 4,500 nits, surpassing competitors like the Apple Watch Series 10 and Galaxy Watch 8.

Enhanced Connectivity
One of the standout features of the Fenix 8 Pro is its connectivity options. Garmin integrates satellite and cellular connectivity, along with inReach technology, enabling users to access emergency services, communicate via Garmin’s Messenger app, and share location data with other Garmin inReach users. While cellular connectivity may not match the latest Samsung and Apple offerings, the inclusion of satellite connection enhances usability in remote areas.

For emergencies, the watch can send signals to Garmin’s Response Center, initiating rescue operations. The inReach system, available through a subscription starting at $7.99 per month, offers peace of mind for outdoor enthusiasts. The Garmin Fenix 8 Pro is set to launch on September 8, in close proximity to Apple’s event, positioning itself as a formidable competitor in the smartwatch market.
