Google launched the Pixel 9 to a lot of praise last summer. However, one controversial aspect among Pixel fans was the huge camera bump on the Pixel 9. Some users didn’t mind it, but those who did made Google defend the design. The base model of the Pixel 9 now has a camera bump as thick as Apple’s pro iPhone models.

But if the camera bump was the only thing holding you back from getting the Pixel 9, there’s good news. The new Pixel 9a completely eliminates the camera bump.

### Pixel 9a: No Camera Bump

Google’s latest “budget” phone, the Pixel 9a, features a flat back design with cameras placed where you’d expect them on a Pixel phone. The new design sets the Pixel 9a apart from other Pixel phones and current smartphones from other brands.

According to Google, the flat back design wasn’t initially planned for the Pixel 9a. However, advancements during the device’s development made it possible. The camera module was shrunk, and the display is thinner than usual for phones in the same price range, enabling the flat back design.

The Pixel line already stood out for its unique camera placement, with a horizontal camera bar across the back of the device. The Pixel 9a, however, eliminates the camera bar and the need for a camera bump. The cameras are positioned side-by-side in a droplet-like indent on the upper left side of the phone’s back.

And yes, Mashable confirmed that the bumpless Pixel 9a can be placed flat on a table or any other surface.
