Truth Social’s Enhanced AI Search Capabilities are Sufficiently Aware to Challenge Trump’s Assertions
Less than a week after the announcement of a new AI search engine powered by Perplexity and purportedly tightly controlled sources, Truth Social’s AI tool is already conflicting with its prominent co-founder. Truth Search AI, a platform-based answer bot constructed on the Perplexity Sonar API, was introduced by the Trump Media and Technology Group to expand the information available to users and provide direct, contextually accurate answers with transparent citations. Despite the commitment to a more extensive information environment, Perplexity representatives clarified that the search tool’s sources could be tailored by its overseers, known as source selection. Initial tests conducted by Axios revealed that Truth Search AI’s responses seemed to be limited to sourcing from traditionally conservative outlets such as FoxNews.com and FoxBusiness.com compared to the standard engine of Perplexity.
Contradictory AI Responses
However, despite the curation, Truth Search AI appears to be deviating from the standard talking points of the Trump Administration. According to an analysis by the Washington Post, the AI tool consistently contradicted claims made by the President instead of supporting statements he had previously posted on Truth Social as factually correct. This includes issues such as the impact of international tariffs on American consumers and the necessity for federal intervention in what Trump has described as a crime-ridden national capital.
Challenges with “Woke AI”
As part of what is described as a government-wide “truth-seeking” initiative, Trump has recently criticized what he terms “Woke AI,” or Large Language Models that he perceives as ideologically biased and influenced by diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) principles. Last month, Trump issued an Executive Order aimed at promoting “unbiased AI” in federal contracting and national security. Concurrently, the administration has struck deals with leading AI companies to provide services to the federal government, including $200 million Pentagon contracts with OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and xAI owned by Elon Musk.
