Roblox implements age verification system for teenage users
Roblox Introduces Age Verification for Teens
Roblox, a popular digital space for kids and teens to play their favorite video games, has announced a new age verification process for teens ages 13 to 17. This process involves verifying their age via a video selfie using the AI-powered age verification product Persona. Once the user’s age is confirmed, they can access a new feature called “Trusted Connections,” which allows them to communicate with other teens via voice and chat without filters, while still being monitored for harmful behavior like grooming.
Enhanced Safety Measures and Parental Controls
This new feature is part of Roblox’s ongoing efforts to make the platform safer for young users. In addition to age verification, the company has implemented restrictions on direct messaging for younger users and introduced new parental control tools. By allowing parents to give verified consent and monitoring all conversations for harmful content, Roblox aims to protect teens from potential risks associated with interacting with strangers online.
Additional Privacy and Notification Features
Alongside age verification and Trusted Connections, Roblox has introduced tools for users to better manage their privacy and screen time. Users now have the ability to set a daily limit on platform usage, enable a do not disturb mode, and control who can see their online status. Parents can also monitor their teen’s activity on the platform, including financial transactions, and receive notifications and alerts for added peace of mind.
