Jimmy Kimmel’s return to television on Tuesday exceeded expectations, with his monologue receiving high praise online. The late-night host’s comeback monologue has set a new record on his YouTube channel, becoming his most viewed monologue in less than a day. Currently, the video is approaching 20 million views, surpassing his previous most-watched monologue from eight years ago, which focused on his son’s heart surgery and has 14 million views.

Controversy and Suspension

Kimmel’s show was temporarily suspended last week after facing backlash for comments he made about the right-wing reaction to a specific event. This led to criticism from FCC chair Brendan Carr, appointed by Trump, who even threatened Kimmel’s network ABC during a podcast. Following this, Nexstar, a company seeking approval for a merger with ties to the Trump administration, decided to pull Kimmel’s show from its stations. However, due to pressure from celebrities and customers cancelling Disney+ subscriptions in protest, ABC reversed its decision and announced the reinstatement of Kimmel’s show at the beginning of this week.

Response and Reactions

President Trump expressed his disapproval of Kimmel’s return on Truth Social and issued threats to ABC. Despite this, Kimmel has shown no intention of halting his mockery of the president in the near future.
