Anticipated announcements for WWDC 2025 include a significant iOS update, Apple Intelligence unveiling, and macOS enhancements.
Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference is approaching, bringing anticipation for significant updates from the tech giant. In 2023, the company introduced the Vision Pro, followed by the debut of Apple Intelligence a year later. Now, all eyes are on what’s next.
Recent rumors surrounding WWDC 2025 suggest one clear focus: major updates to iOS.
Specifically, iOS is rumored to undergo its most significant redesign in years — a fresh new look that appears to be a direct response to Google’s Android 16 overhaul. The event’s tagline, “Sleek peek,” hints at this emphasis. However, it seems unlikely that there will be any major hardware announcements at this year’s WWDC.
Here’s a preview of the news and updates expected at Apple WWDC 2025.
WWDC 2025: What to Expect
The upcoming WWDC is scheduled for June 9 to 13, with the keynote set for June 9 at 10 a.m. PT. The event promises to showcase “the latest Apple software and technologies,” with Apple CEO Tim Cook leading the presentation. Viewers can watch the event live, and Mashable will also provide coverage of the keynote.
Introducing iOS 19, or is it iOS 26?
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is focusing on unification this year. This not only involves a redesigned iOS but also a new naming convention. The upcoming iteration is expected to be named iOS 26, aligning version numbers with the corresponding year of update. This shift towards more frequent software updates signifies a departure from the previous single fall release strategy.
Gurman suggests that this naming approach is more forward-looking and reflects Apple’s lean towards continuous innovation.
What about MacOS?
Apple’s rebranding effort extends beyond iOS. The company is anticipated to unveil synchronized updates across its ecosystem, including watchOS 26, macOS 26, iPadOS 26, visionOS 26, and tvOS 26. With the recent release of the new M4 MacBook Air models, expectations are high for intriguing updates to macOS.
Details on these updates are scarce at the moment, but enthusiasts are optimistic about the potential enhancements to macOS 26.
Don’t expect WWDC to change that. According to Gurman, AI won’t be the headliner this year. “Apple needs a comeback,” he writes, but cautions against expecting it at this event. Instead, the focus will be on design tweaks and core system updates, a back-to-basics approach that makes this year’s conference feel smaller in scale than previous editions.
The one AI-related development worth watching is Apple’s reportedly opening up of its Foundation Models to third-party developers. This will allow developers to create custom app features. In addition, Gurman says that several other apps on iOS, like Safari and Photos, will quietly get rebranded as “AI-powered.”
In short, while we expect Apple to announce new Apple Intelligence and AI features, we don’t expect massive updates like we’ve seen from OpenAI or Google lately.
All quiet on the hardware front
Currently, Apple appears to be in a phase of recalibration. Major projects, such as a foldable iPhone or a more affordable Vision Pro, are still in development stages. The anticipation for the “next big thing” remains, but it seems farther out on the horizon. While there is a possibility of a significant hardware reveal at WWDC, it is more likely to occur in the fall.
