AT&T’s got your back with their new Wireless Account Lock to keep SIM swappers at bay
AT&T Introduces New Feature to Prevent SIM Swapping
AT&T has come up with a clever solution to protect its customers from falling victim to SIM swapping schemes. The telecom company, fresh off a major settlement for data breaches, has unveiled a feature called Wireless Account Lock on its website.
Available for postpaid customers through the myAT&T phone app, this feature can be activated with a simple tap of a button. Once activated, Wireless Account Lock prevents anyone on the account from making changes such as:
- Change SIM card/eSIM
- Upgrade device
- Add a new line
- Change billing information
- Change phone numbers
- Transfer phones
- Switch authorized users
Protect Yourself from Online Scams
By turning on Wireless Account Lock, you effectively safeguard yourself against SIM swapping scams. This type of scam involves cybercriminals hijacking your phone number to gain access to accounts that rely on two-factor authentication.
If you’re an AT&T customer, it’s a smart move to enable this feature as an added layer of security. It’s better to be safe than sorry!
