A new malware campaign targeting Android devices has been revealed by ZLabs researchers at Zimperium. This SMS stealer campaign is spreading globally, tricking users with fake app download pages or Telegram bots promising free apps.

### A massive SMS stealer campaign

The hackers lure victims with fake app advertisements on malicious webpages or through Telegram bots offering pirated Android apps. Once the victims download the malware, it gains access to their devices and steals sensitive information, including OTPs for financial gain.

Zimperium researchers have been tracking this campaign for over two years, identifying over 107,000 malware samples connected to it. The SMS stealer campaign has affected victims in 113 countries, with a high concentration in India and Russia.

Android users are advised to be cautious of download links promising free apps and to utilize Google Play Protect for protection against malware.
