Amazon’s Alexa Fund Invests in Fable Studio

Amazon’s Alexa Fund has made an investment in Fable Studio, a startup known for its AI-generated parody of “South Park.” The investment, the amount of which was not disclosed, is directed towards Fable Studio’s new streaming platform, Showrunner, described as the “Netflix of AI.” Showrunner allows users to create shows using the platform’s generative AI model.

Fable Studio gained attention in 2023 when it released a 20-minute clip in the style of “South Park,” entirely created by generative AI. The video went viral during the SAG-AFTRA strike, raising questions about the use of AI in creative industries. Fable Studio clarified that the video was an experimental project exploring AI technologies.

Now, Fable Studio has launched Showrunner as a commercial platform, where users can create their own animated shows or modify existing ones. The company is seeking partnerships with major studios like Disney to license intellectual property for the platform. Showrunner currently features original shows like “Exit Valley” and “Everything Is Fine.”

Showrunner is available in alpha mode on showrunner.xyz and Discord, with plans to charge users $10 to $20 per month for content creation credits. The platform is free to use for watching videos.

Update: The source of the investment from Amazon’s Alexa Fund has been clarified in this story.
